Meet Heather Newall,
The Innovative Leader for Lehi

Public Service

I was appointed to serve on the Lehi City Planning Commission in 2021 and was elected chair at the beginning of 2023. As a Planning Commissioner, I hear public comments and address items by voting and sending recommendations to the City Council. Being on the Planning Commission has allowed me to recommend development code changes such as driveway lengths, increasing parking requirements, and ADU restrictions. I was involved in adopting the latest General Plan and have advocated being thoughtful and strategic regarding growth and development. I have pushed for codes that limit General Plan changes, allowing the commission and council to consider changes holistically so that we can be proactive in how changes affect surrounding properties.

Community Service

I am the Volunteer Marketing Director and Lead Parent Volunteer for Skyridge Theatre, responsible for overseeing and managing marketing, publicity, and strategy. Last year, Skyridge Theatre more than doubled ticket sales revenue over the previous year and broke multiple attendance records through my efforts. I implemented a new ticketing system, created and manage the website, run social media, and I’m the video editor for all promotional material. I drastically improved Skyridge Theatre’s social media presence without ad spend, creating TikToks and reels with millions of views, including one with over 19M views.

Professional

I am the Chief Technology Officer for More Good Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Provo. I am responsible for the overall technology strategy and direction of the Foundation and oversee and execute the Foundation’s technological strategies, innovations, and vision. I lead the research development efforts and emerging technologies and determine how to leverage them effectively. I also collaborate with other executives in aligning technology initiatives and strategies. I direct the Web Development, Social Media, SEO, Video, and Graphic Design Departments, which include local and international teams.

Personal

I am married to John Newall, with four sons. We have lived in Lehi for 21 years in three different homes. We have seen Lehi grow from 20k residents to over 85k. I was born in American Fork, where my paternal grandfather taught at AF High School, and my maternal great-grandfather owned and operated the Star Flour Mill. I grew up in Orem and attended Mountain View High before attending BYU. I had always dreamed of being a teacher. However, my goal of teaching was overtaken by my fascination with emerging web development and internet-based technology. I was self-taught, as no degree or classes were offered then. I began working in the field and worked for a few different companies, including Excite.com. I developed my own websites as well as one of the first about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am often called “a pioneer in online missionary work,” as I shared the gospel with others worldwide before the Church had any online presence. One of the first people I shared the gospel with was baptized in 1998. I love learning and working with others, and I am excited about the opportunity to do more for Lehi.
